Kyosei means “individuals with differences in terms of ethnicity, language, religion, nationality, gender/sexuality, generation, health/disability, etc. live together by mutually accepting the multiplicity of human cultures and identities and constructing equal relationships.” The mission of the Division of Kyosei Studies [Critical Studies in Coexistence, Symbiosis and Conviviality] is to construct “Kyosei studies” that, on one hand, returns to the fundamental question “what does it mean for humans to live like humans?” and, on the other hand, responds to the conditions of global society in the 21st century by grounding our work in the accumulated educational and research activity of the School of Human Sciences. Alongside our work to continue building a new research field, we will train individuals who can actively inquire and devise theoretical and practical answers to the important question of “Kyosei” that we all face.
