By using primates, particularly the Japanese macaque, as subjects, we study their behavior during infant development, the mother-child relationship, and peer relationships. We have an outdoor facility in Maniwa City, the Okayama Prefecture, to observe Japanese macaques.
Each one of the approximately 160 monkeys has a name, and we have records for their year of birth and blood relatives. We also conduct behavioral studies on mammals other than the Japanese macaque at zoos and other facilities.
